Electric motorcycles are fast becoming a popular mode of transportation. Racing versions of these bikes are going to put them over the edge and allow them to compete with traditional gasoline engines in the general marketplace. A new company, Amarok Racing, believes that they have produced an all electric bike which will compete with the Yamaha TZ250R Two-Stroke GP ride.
How did they do it? Out-of-the-box engineering is where they started. All of the battery system is ‘mass centralized’. That means that it is contained in the aluminum monocoque. While designing the bike, the team started with a mission and stayed true to its mission. They changed the bike to fit the design, not the other way around.
The result is a bike that weighs a light 148 kg and produces in excess of 75 hp. The second generation of the bike will shed another 25 or more kilos. It is common knowledge that a lighter bike can compete with fewer ponies. That is what Amarok is counting on.
The bike is scheduled to compete in the TTX75 circuit in the future. If all goes well, Amarok may become a household name. No word yet on whether this bike will be slated for a production model, how much it will cost, or how much motorcycle insurance will be on a bike like this.
